Optical Dispenser

**Position Summary**

Assists members in ordering eyeglasses and lenses. Adjusts and dispenses eyeglasses and contacts. Measures and determines bifocal and multifocal placement. Processes orders. Oversees non-licensed apprentices. Cleans department area. Assists members while providing prompt and courteous member service. Follows proper safety and security procedures and standards.

**Job Duties/Essential Functions**
- Assists members with choosing eyeglasses frames and lens options appropriate to prescription
- Fits and adjusts lenses to eyeglass frames
- Dispenses eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Measures member’s eyes for pupillary distance and determines bifocal placement
- Answers questions and addresses problems regarding prescriptions
- Places special orders to outside suppliers
- Stocks department equipment, merchandise and supplies
- Follows department procedures and standards for production, record keeping, merchandising and merchandise storage
- Cleans department
- Takes optical measurements and educates members on best products to meet visual aids
- Counts register at sign on and ensures the register’s cleanliness
- Makes witnessed drops/deposits of excess funds to the vault; orders cash increases and counts own register at shift end to maintain accurate register funds
- Receives accurate payment for merchandise; makes change; processes checks, credit, and debit changes according to proper departmental procedures for paperwork and the performance of duties
- Exercises discretion and confidentiality with all patient information
- Follows proper Optical Centre, general safety, and security procedures and standards
- Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
- Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees and suppliers

**_Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery_**
- Computer, phone, copier, cash register, cardboard baler, rubbish compactor, hand held scanner, pupilometer, lensometer, frame warmer, small pliers and screwdriver, rubbish compactor, cardboard baler

Education/Training:

- High School Certificate or higher
- Training and apprenticeship in Optometry (as required by state)

Licenses/Certifications:

- Certificate IV Optical Dispensing

Experience/Skills:

- Appropriate Optical dispensing equivalent experience
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- Basic math skills

**Other specific requirements**
- Full COVID-19 vaccination or medical contraindications certificate
- If successful, you will be required to undertake role & department specific training within specified timeframes
