**About the role**:
The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police, persons involved with the administration of justice and the public.

**The function of the Forensic Integrated Sampling Unit is**:

- To participate in the recovery of forensic material from exhibits in a multidisciplinary environment.
- The submission of samples found on exhibits to the relevant forensic disciplines for analysis.

**As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include**:

- Under direction and/or supervision conduct the examination and analysis of exhibits using defined methods and procedures.
- Maintain equipment, instruments, laboratory space and document performance with respect to quality control criteria.
- Participate in services supplied by the technical support area as required.
- Participate in activities required to maintain accreditation and meet obligations as required.
- Provide recommendations to management on administrative procedures as appropriate.
- Provide general administrative assistance, respond to customer enquiries, maintain computerised records and compile statistical reports.
- As part of a team, and under direction, assist in relevant research that helps improve and expand Group methodologies.
- Present evidence in Courts of law of a factual nature, in an impartial and concise manner as required.
- Prioritise casework and provide statistics to management.
- Maintain appropriate knowledge of Victoria Police and Department policies, procedures and legislation.
- Generating reports in relation to casework.
- Attending and assisting at secondary locations under direction and supervision to recover exhibits and samples where required.

Skills & Experience

**As the successful applicant, you will have**:

- Perform multidisciplinary evidence recovery within laboratory.
- Attend and assist at crime scenes and secondary locations to process crime scene related samples within defined parameters.
- Present factual evidence in Courts of Law where required.
- Conduct analysis of samples and initial examination of exhibits under direction and/or supervision within defined parameters.
- Operate and maintain existing systems and processes including technical and scientific equipment.
- Conduct quality controls within work area, including keeping records where necessary.
- Solve routine problems using readily available information, where alternatives are limited
- Regularly interact with a range of internal and external stakeholders to provide advice or specialist information.
- Assists in prioritising tasks in order to achieve specified targets.
- Provide general administrative assistance, respond to customer enquiries, maintain records and compile reports.

**Requirements and relevant information**:

- Position is located at 31 Forensic drive Macleod, Victoria
- A relevant tertiary qualification would be desirable
- The incumbent may be required to work outside the ordinary hours (e.g. shift work/overtime/on-call) and attend crime scenes
- The incumbent must possess a Victorian Drivers Licence and the ability to obtain a Victoria Police Approved Drivers Authority.
- A security clearance must be obtained which will include fingerprinting
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
