**About the role**
**Mater Health** has an exciting opportunity for a **General Practitioner** to join the team on a permanent part-time basis (7:36hrs p/w) based at Mater South Brisbane.
With an interest in refugee and asylum seeker health to address health inequities for this population through improving system responses, coordinating education and training and contributing to better integration of primary, secondary and tertiary care. It is nonclinical and has state-wide reach in close collaboration with the RHNQ state-wide coordinator.
**Salary range: $87.25 - $98.17 **per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and **access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900** + **access to many staff benefits
**What you’ll be doing**
The purpose of this state-wide Senior Medical Officer (General Practitioner) Refugee Health Network Qld position is to provide strategic advice and leadership to enhance the capacity of the health sector to respond to the health and wellbeing needs of people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.
This non-clinical role works closely with the Refugee Health Network Qld statewide coordinator, the capacity building and resource coordinator and reports to the Director of Mater Refugee and Multicultural Health. A key role of the SMO-GP RHNQ is to facilitate collaboration between Queensland Health funded refugee health services and primary care to ensure equitable access and high-quality care. The position is guided by and plays a critical role in enabling the Queensland Health Refugee Health and Wellbeing Policy Action Plan (2022-2027).
The key strategic objectives of this position include:
- Facilitation and Chair of the state-wide Clinical Advisory Group
- High level strategic, clinical and policy advice to Queensland Health, PHNs, non-government sector and other key primary health stakeholders
- Coordination of training and education to build capacity in primary care, with a focus on general practitioners
- Direct liaison and support of general practitioners across Queensland with a focus on areas of humanitarian settlement and areas where there are no funded refugee health clinical leads
- Direct liaison and support of clinicians working in state funder RH services
- Supporting initiatives that build health literacy and system navigation including co-designing resources with people from refugee and humanitarian backgrounds
- Support health workers across all health sectors in working with this population
- Research and documentation of priority issues in refugee health care and contribute to strategic advocacy and policy reform
**About you**
The ideal applicants will have:
- Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Authority (AHPRA).
- FRACGP qualification and at least 3 years experience as a GP working in refugee and immigration health and working with interpreters.
- Experience in providing health care to patients of different cultural backgrounds including working with interpreters
- Knowledge of refugee health issues including infectious diseases
- Evidence of teaching and research in the field of Refugee Health
- Demonstrated ability to strategically engage with a variety of stakeholders including diverse refugee background communities and contribute to achieving sustainable health outcomes for communities and health providers
- Demonstrated experience in research including data collection, analysis and translation into practice
