**About us...**
The **Motor Trade Association of South Australia (MTA)** is South Australia’s only dedicated automotive industry training provider, delivering apprentices with the skills and industry access to best prepare them for a career as a Vehicle Body Maker.
MTA apprentices are trained by industry, for industry, this means you learn the skills that are needed in the modern workshop including practical hands on assessments.
We train over 900 apprentices and employ over 500 automotive apprentices across a range of automotive trades producing the qualified technicians of the future.
**About the role **
There’s an industry need for qualified Vehicle Body Makers which means more post apprenticeship opportunities than ever for young people wanting to get their start in the automotive industry.
Successful applicants will commence the MEM30305 Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade qualification.
This role would be suited to a person who is interested in making, modifying and repairing vehicle body components and structures, and finding innovative engineering solutions.
Vehicle Body Makers can be found in a range of workplaces and industries including dealerships, councils, mining and manufacturing to name a few. They also work on all types of vehicles ranging from truck trailer and mining equipment fabrication, modification and repair through to heavy vehicle manufacturing.
Duties include:
- Production of metal (ferrous and non-ferrous) vehicle bodies and accessories
- Use of a range of tools including welding, thermal cutting equipment and hand and power tools
- Perform engineering measurements and computations
- Interpret technical drawings and work with CAD software and machinery
This is a four-year apprenticeship, although a competency-based training approach allows for possible earlier completion.

**To be successful in this role you need the following**:
Essential skills & competencies:
- Experience with hand/power tools
- Passion for the Motor Industry
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to follow instructions, processes and procedures
- Willingness to learn
- Good communication skills
- Friendly and have a great personality
Essential requirements:
- Completion of year 10 or higher
- Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Successful completion of MTA's pre-selection test which can be conducted at our Training and Employment Centre or Online
- Provisional Drivers Licence
- COVID-19 Vaccination is not currently mandatory - however, we do require disclosure of your current status and proof of vaccination if you have been vaccinated
If successful, you would be employed by the MTA and would undertake your training through TAFE SA (RTO Code 41026).
If you have experience in the automotive industry but not the qualifications, you may be eligible to receive Recognition of Prior Learning
