2d Rough Animation Lead

Flying Bark is on the hunt for an experienced 2D Rough Animation Lead

The Rough Animation Lead’s role is to guide and direct animation, under the direction of the Animation Director and Client. In this role you will work closely with the Animation Director to define the final character performance; the Producer to ensure that schedule and budget requirements are met; the Pipeline team to ensure that the animation tools and processes optimise workflow and that the technical requirements of the Program are met, and the animation crew to ensure the successful execution of the animation for the project.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with the Animation Director and Supervisor to realise Client’s vision through the rough animation on the show;
- Lead the Animation Team to ensure that the Client’s Director/s creative vision for the performance, energy and animation style is realised and delivered;
- Work with the Animation Supervisor to provide solid creative performance briefs for the animators;
- Direct, inspire and mentor all crew assigned to the animation department;
- Work closely with the animation crew to ensure continuity of performance (quality and look) across characters and sequences;
- Assess and break down approved animatics and design packs to form efficient episodic plans in collaboration with the Production Crew, Background Lead and Animation Director;
- Attend episodic handovers with the Client’s Director/s to ensure a full understanding of the creative and technical requirements for each episode;
- Carry out daily animation reviews and provide clear feedback to the crew to ensure that the creative and technical requirements for the Program/s is maintained;
- Clearly understand the creative requirements of the Program/s and help develop workflows and techniques that will ensure that these requirements are met;
- Work with the pipeline team to develop tools and processes to maximise efficiency of several stages of the animation pipeline;
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of QT Scripts in Harmony Script Editor;
- Work cohesively within a team environment ensuring high levels of communication at all times;
- Attend regular meetings with the Producer to report on department and crew progress;
- Be cognisant of balancing production and budgetary limitations with the desired visual outcome for the Program/s, clearly communicating any issues that may impact the budget with the Producer;
- Maintain strong communication with the Production Crew, flagging in advance any issues that may impact on successful timely delivery of material or shots;
- Ensure all work remains confidential per code of conduct and security forms;.

**Key Measures of Success**:

- Animation Director and Client’s vision for performance animation of the Program/s is achieved and carried throughout the project in accordance with the schedule and budget for the Program/s;
- Establishment of successful working relationships with key members of production and crew;
- Strong open and constructive communication abilities;
- Working cohesively with CG and Production teams to ensure production remains in scope;
- Animation team is provided with tools and workflows to maximise efficiency;
- Successful leadership of a team of artists;
- Complete tasks within production deadlines and on budget

**Skillset**:

- A minimum of 3 year’s experience as a Senior Animator working in the area of television or film animation;
- Strong sense of composition, animation timing and narrative storytelling;
- Extensive experience and understanding of Toon Boom Harmony in a production based environment;
- Extensive experience in character animation, 2D animation and effects animation workflows in a production based environment;
- Expert knowledge of 2D animation pipeline and techniques;
- Ability and enthusiasm for leading and mentoring an animation team;
- Personable and positive client facing personality;
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to share information in a team environment;

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
