Data Center Technician, Technical Infrastructure

**Minimum qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience working with any of the following; servers, hard drives, network switches, firmware and relevant diagnostics, performance tests, Linux, low-level software.
- Ability to lift/move (25kgs) equipment as required.
- Ability to work non-standard work hours as needed, including working weekends, holidays, and shift-based schedules.

**Preferred qualifications**:

- Experience with hardware architecture, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience working with and troubleshooting hardware/network related issues using Linux based tools.
- Experience working on data center server and networking hardware, with an understanding of the infrastructure at a high-level.
- Demonstrated Linux, installation, systems administration, and troubleshooting skills, including knowledge in networking, topology, and protocol.
- Travel to various site locations up to 50% of the time.

**About the job**:
Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians. You will oversee the quality installation of server hardware and components and take charge of complicated installations/troubleshooting.

Your team will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). They will also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. They may lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.

**Responsibilities**:

- Contribute to and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of current and new data center infrastructure.
- Lead and resolve critical or escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment.
- Test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
- Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS related issues on our servers. Participate actively in on-call rotations to support our data center infrastructure, which may include occasional after hours, weekends, and national holiday shift work.
- Lead and take part in the development of processes and documentation for new areas of work or knowledge. Mentor, train, and guide new team members.
