Apprentice Horticulturist

Gnome Yard Care is looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Horticulturist on a full time basis to join our team.

Gnome Yard Care is a garden maintenance business that works primarily in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas with some work in Maitland. We do mínimal lawnmowing and no arborist work, but instead focus on creating and maintaining the gardens themselves so that our clients can enjoy them. Our clients are both residential and commercial. This role is ideal for anyone currently or interested in studying Horticulture, Parks & Gardens, or similar courses.

If you have experience in the garden, that is great, but training will be provided. There will be opportunities to advance and continue to learn in this role.

Role and Responsibilities
- General garden maintenance; weeding, pruning, hedging
- Garden cleanups; clearing, planting, mulching
- Pest control; either through plant care or chemical use
- Meet at identified site or office each morning
- Operate machinery including power tools
- Follow safe work practices and identify any hazards
- Service and maintain tools and equipment
- This is a physical role; bending and lifting is required.
- Perform all tasks necessary for the completion of a Certificate III in Horticulture
- Attend nominated TAFE & fulfils all requirements for attendance, study, assessment & completion of modules within required timeframes

Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Currently or interested in a horticulture apprenticeship
- Enjoys learning
- Exceptional customer service skills and can-do attitude
- Able to work well in a team
- Able to work in a range of locations across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and Maitland
- Good communication skills and able to follow instructions
- Holds a Driver’s License
- Willing to have a police check and working with children check (this is due to client requirements)

Desirable
- Holds a First Aid Certificate
- Holds a Manual Driver’s License
