At the SAHMRI, we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people. The SAHMRI Women and Kids Theme runs nutrition intervention trials which focus on enhancing cognitive outcomes, achieving optimal growth and preventing allergic disease in young children, with a particular attention to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. The theme has its headquarters at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital campus and shares laboratories in the main SAHMRI building. The Theme was among the first to demonstrate the role omega 3 fatty acids in preventing preterm birth and the essentiality of omega-3 fats in the neural development of infants born prematurely published in JAMA and the NEJM.
**The position**
**Key responsibilities of the Research Fellow include**:
- Aim to establish a world class research centre within SAHMRI
- Bring their unique expertise/viewpoint to the current multidisciplinary team.
- Design and conduct research projects in collaboration with other researchers
- Contribute laboratory expertise to the design and analysis of clinical trials
- Provide laboratory support to projects led by other researchers
- Develop and validate new methods
- Write clearly documented protocols associated with research programs
- Enthusiastically prepare manuscripts for submission to journals
- Supervise or mentor junior researchers and students
**About You**
- A doctoral level degree in any of a range of fields related to the biological basis of human health including chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, nutrition or other health related fields including medicine, dietetics or allied health.
- At least 2 years’ relevant experience
- Substantial experience research methodology
- A record of peer-reviewed research publications
- Proven ability to attract research funding
- A strong desire to become a research leader in their field
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
