The Conservator - Large Technology Objects (LTO) collaboratively supports and contributes to the conservation, preservation management, storage and exhibition of the LTO collection. The work includes conservation survey and treatment; devising, developing and implementing new or improved conservation processes and techniques for the collection; project reporting and support; active participation in a small multidisciplinary team of flexible staff; detailed research and documentation; stakeholder engagement and participating in Section and Memorial management activities. The position requires high level organisational and technical skills and attention to detail to utilise and interpret physical evidence in conservation and fabrication processes. The position is based at the Treloar Technology Centre, Mitchell ACT.

**Core Responsibilities**

Under general direction:

- Use established and innovative conservation and engineering techniques to stabilise, repair and maintain large technology objects;
- Participate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop and deliver exhibition and preservation programs;
- Collaborate with other LTO specialists and technicians on projects and collection management initiatives;
- Develop treatment proposals and complete projects in a timely manner in support of Memorial priorities;
- Document all preservation activities on the Memorial’s Collection Management System;
- Undertake research and scientific analysis to determine the authenticity, composition, condition, deterioration processes, and history of the LTO collection;
- Contribute to hazard mitigation initiatives for LTOs
- Contribute to planning for transport, storage and exhibition of LTOs;
- Manual handling and movement of a wide range of objects as required;
- Promote Workplace Health and Safety and contribute to safety aspects of LTO projects including safety plans, documentation and initiatives;
- Contribute to Collection Services team outcomes for the safe, collaborative and effective management of the National Collection.
