**The Role**

Our department is committed to meaningful change through Aboriginal self-determination and leadership. This senior role will lead our journey in creating culturally safe employment and career pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

As Principal Advisor, Aboriginal Recruitment and Capability Development (ARCD) you will lead a new, small, specialised team responsible for driving the Aboriginal Recruitment and Career Development Strategy (ARCDS) and supporting the implementation of the new Aboriginal Cultural Safety Framework (ACSF) across the department and with key stakeholders.

The focus of your role will be to lead and manage the implementation of key strategic projects and develop an effective engagement strategy that fosters sincere collaboration with key stakeholders within the department, across government, and with Victorian communities to build strong and sustainable relationships. Your voice and cultural leadership will help shape how we work, recruit and develop talent across the department. In the face of challenges or difficult problems, you will facilitate the exchanges required to broker understanding and generate opportunities, by infusing cultural knowledge and safety.

As a leader, you will guide a team in providing operational and strategic advice, leveraging your knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal staff, stakeholders and communities. As a cultural leader, you'll inspire your team while providing strategic guidance and mentorship that drives real change. Your expertise in developing culturally informed solutions will be key to transforming how we work.

**The Team**

The position of Principal Advisor, Aboriginal Recruitment and Capability Development forms a part of People & Culture within the Corporate Services group.

The Group works collaboratively to deliver integrated and operational functions across the department, leading the development of governance, people, culture, systems, and capability.

The branch is a multi-disciplinary team with a strategic, tactical, and operational function, supporting the achievement of the department's objectives by providing excellent service and trusted advice. It has a clear focus on adding value to the department by supporting the Executive Board to drive DJSIR's organisational culture through a range of strategies and initiatives.

**About You**

To be successful in the role, you will have:

- Demonstrated experience and deep understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, with a strong focus on the social and cultural factors that support employment, retention and career development.
- Demonstrated experience leading positive change for First Nations people, including building capability, partnerships, programs, and initiatives that achieve strategic objectives aligned to First Nations employment and career development outcomes.
- Proven ability to support and coordinate successful initiatives that create diverse opportunities for Aboriginal people, such as through employment programs, community projects, and cultural development.
- Proven experience leading and developing engagement strategies with Aboriginal staff, networks and communities, while effectively representing and harmonising organisational interests in committees and meetings.
