About the School
Caloundra State High School is a future orientated school underpinned by traditional values, where individual student growth and personal achievements are celebrated alongside academic success - students are our number one priority. We set high expectations in relation to student learning and engagement. Our teachers seek to develop in our students' high levels of concentration and productivity, with no student having the right to 'opt out' of learning and participating, thus ensuring that every student learns and achieves every day to the best of their ability.
Our current school priorities are focussed on enhancing a positive school community learning culture, educational excellence and inclusive practices. Our focus is undeniably LEARNING but learning in a 21st century mode incorporating the use of digital ICT with every student expected to have and use their own electronic device and teaching the 21st Century skills and attributes of Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Citizenship and Character (6 C's).Our school has taken the best of current effective researched-based pedagogical approaches to learning and developed what is known locally in our school as 'The Caloundra Way'. This has enabled a consistent approach to teaching and learning and allowed both staff and students the ability to communicate high expectations via a shared language; enhancing the learning outcomes of students through a positive, caring approach. A diverse, innovative and relevant curriculum that is responsive to individual, community, resource availability and staff expertise delivers high academic and vocational outcomes. The Sunshine Coast Technical Trade Training Centre (SCTTTC) located on site and in partnership with other state schools, is recognised as highly successful and innovative with an outstanding student employment success.
Caloundra has created a school culture which is highly collegial and provides students with a highly caring and supportive learning environment. Passionate experienced teaching professionals are innovative in course delivery, promoting a learning culture where achievements are celebrated and acknowledged. The valuing of individual students, enables tailored learning pathways where staff possess a thorough knowledge of students' abilities and where they aspire to be. Our highly supportive school culture is recognised internationally through our expanding International Schools program.
Student learning is based on productive partnerships between the Student, Parent and School community with each having clear responsibilities to support the learner. These partnerships are a crucial component of Caloundra's way of doing business and the success of our students is dependent on the partnership between the student, parent and the school. Clear consistent communication ensures that learners are in class learning and engaged, therefore, achieving to their full potential.
For 60 years our school has nurtured and produced students of the highest quality for a range of vocational and academic pathways. Student learning, quality pedagogy and student achievement for meaningful pathways will continue to drive the school's improvement agenda, aligning with our motto 'Lighting the way to Broad Horizons and Bright Futures'. We build futures here at Caloundra State High School
