This position is an essential part of the team who prides themselves in excellent Coding Turnaround Time; coordinating with supporting teams (Health Information Services), Patient Billing and Reporting; Routine Activity Based Funding (ABF) Education; clinical engagement; coding reviews and quality activities.
**Your key responsibilities will include;**
- Management of the Health Service inpatient separations coding using the 3M Codefinder software in accordance with Australian Coding Standards.
- Assign morbidity and procedural classifications using the 3M Codefinder software to patient episodes
- Participate in ongoing education including coding meetings, formal and informal instruction and feedback to/from clinical staff
- Coordinate with the patient billing and performance reporting teams to resolve queries and issues related to accurate and timing submission of coded data
- Understand the culture of care available to patients. Help patients secure & maintain records and document treatment choices & care preferences
- Provide information and support the implementation of continuous quality improvement activities that develop the role and integration of services across COBLH
- Participate in quality improvement activities and regularly review own work practices to ensure continuous improvement in meeting patient expectations and requirements

**Selection Criteria**
- Successful completion of a recognised Clinical Coding course (either Health Information Management Association HIMAA Coding Course of Australia or Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent)
- Previous experience with the 3M encoder software
- Up-to-date knowledge and experience in clinical coding using 12th edition of ICD-10-AM and ACHI and sound knowledge of Australian Coding Standards
- An understanding of the issues surrounding confidentiality and appropriate use of information
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, prioritisation and negotiation skills in order to liaise effectively with clinical staff in relation to clinical coding and documentation issues, and coding staff in relation to coding quality activities and coding support.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and within in a team environment

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Demonstrated ability to initiate, conduct, and/or participate in, quality improvement activities in relation to coded data and coding processes.
- Previous multidisciplinary private hospital experience and knowledge of private sector funding models
- Understanding of AR-DRGs and health fund contracts
- Demonstrate an understanding of Activity Based Funding and Activity Based Management
