The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

MCV will commence operations at the Wyndham Law Courts in late 2025. This brand-new court replaces the Werribee court and will deliver justice services to the western suburbs of Melbourne.

**About the role**

The Family Violence Respondent Practitioner (FVRP) plays a vital role in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria's response to family violence. As part of a specialist team-including the Family Violence Registrar (FVR) and Family Violence Applicant Practitioner (FVAP)-the FVRP contributes to enhancing the safety of women and children attending court and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.

This public-facing role involves direct engagement with respondents, court staff, legal professionals, police prosecutors, and community-based support services. The FVRP conducts assessments, facilitates referrals, and provides expert information to Magistrates to support informed decision-making. The role also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives within the court's family violence jurisdiction.

Key Accountabilities
- ; Conduct MARAM-aligned assessments and refer respondents to appropriate support services and programs.
- ; Provide expert information to Magistrates regarding respondent needs and service availability.
- ; Communicate family violence concepts and court procedures to respondents and stakeholders.
- ; Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring compliance with privacy and consent protocols.
- ; Represent MCV in stakeholder meetings and contribute to interagency collaboration.
- ; Prepare reports and update internal systems to support service delivery and performance monitoring.
- ; Travel to satellite and headquarter courts as required to support family violence proceedings.
- ; Deliver education and training to internal and external stakeholders.

**About You**
- ; Proven experience in MARAM-aligned risk assessment and safety planning.
- ; Strong background in crisis support, case coordination, and promoting client accountability.
- ; Understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and related frameworks.
- ; Knowledge of intersecting issues such as housing, legal, AOD, mental health, and cognitive impairment.
- ; Cultural sensitivity and awareness of intersectionality in service delivery.
- ; Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields are highly desirable.
- ; Demonstrated experience working with individuals who have perpetrated family violence.
