**The Division**
The Customer Strategy and Technology team within Transport leads the development of long-term, multi-modal network strategies and place plans across NSW. We leverage data and insights, implement new technologies, drive innovation and build partnerships to provide customer-centred solutions.
**The opportunity**
Right now, we have an exciting opening for a Software Development Manager (Data Platform) to join the Customer Strategy and Technology division in the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) branch. SCATS enables cities around the world including Sydney to optimise their transport networks in real-time, managing congestion and keeping over 1 billion people moving efficiently every day, worldwide.
As a Software Development Manager in the Data team you will play a key role in designing and building a new data platform to support evolving data analytics and business intelligence requirements of global customers and the internal business. Your role is to be the technical expert that the team and others can go to for guidance and you will lead the development, deployment, maintenance and continual improvement of a green fields data platform. You will work closely with the product owner, business analyst, solution architect and UX team to develop architectural sound solutions that are customer focused.
This position is a permanent full time opportunity and is based at Strawberry Hills but with very flexible work options available.
**What you will be involved in**:
- Technical and People Leadership - work closely with product owners, BAs, other technical leads, solution architects and other team members. Manage a new team of developers and data engineers
- SaaS Data Platform Delivery - delivery of a large scale data platform which will be offered as a globally distributed service.
- Delivery Expertise - responsibility for technology within major project deliverables.
- Agile Expertise - participate, and where necessary coordinate, the agile delivery of a technology focused team. Play a major role in the creation of stories, breaking them into lower level tasks and driving the agile board.
- Cloud Native Development - utilise cloud native technologies and processes (e.g. Infrastructure as Code) to implement capability quickly and at scale.
- API Interfaces - advanced skills and experience in the design and usage of APIs.
- BI Tools - implementing BI products/platforms for both internal and customer use.
- Complex Data - Working with and understanding large and complex data sets.
- Operational Expertise - Operational activities like regular/ad-hoc reporting from disparate data sources. Respond to production severity 1 & 2 issues appropriately within a DevOps environment.
- Geospatial Expertise - transformation of geospatial data.
- Technical Documentation - creation of detailed, business readable, technical documentation, to support business cases and solution designs.
- Customer Experience - deliver great customer experiences. Know what a good chart looks like. For both internal and external customers.
**About you**:
- Demonstrated skill and experience delivering software solutions and projects in a large, complex organisation utilising Agile methodology
- Have lead teams of developers for at least 3 years
- Get excited at the idea of having access to vast amounts of traffic data
- 3+ years experience with data transformations, ETL, and insights reporting
- Experience delivering cloud native implementations, preferably with AWS including utilisation of Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with and a solid understanding of microservices architecture
- Experience implementing data lakehouse in AWS, with hands on experience a bonus
- Good understanding of what a successful SaaS platform involves
- Excellent stakeholder management and strong communication skills
- Natural influencer and negotiator and ability to build quick relationships with key stakeholders
**Salary and Benefits**
The salary for this position is Level 4 ($150,887 - $160,995) plus superannuation and annual leave loading.
