**About the role**
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a **Field Officer Grade 3-4** to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.
Field Officers assist with a diverse range of activities relating to maintenance and improvement to park assets within NPWS parks and reserves. You will be guided by the senior field staff, in your day-to-day work including routine maintenance, accommodation and visitor facility cleaning, pest and weed control, construction and installation of new assets and conservation works. You will operate and maintain plant and equipment, participate in fire management activities, respond to visitor enquiries and assist with compliance activities as required.
Key points regarding role:
- **Barunguba - Montague Island Nature Reserve is a remote location some 9 nautical miles from Narooma on the NSW South Coast**.
- This role will support conservation works and visitor programs on the island.
- Field Officers are required to work a minimum 8-day rotating shift based on Montague Island, this position is a 5/7 role requiring work every second weekend throughout the year.
- Temporary accommodation for the Field Officer on shift is supplied by NPWS, and the Field Officer will be required to supply their own bedding and meals.
- Field Officers will be transported to and from the island by the NPWS Shearwater II vessel or a contract vessel, providing sea conditions allow. Field Officers need to take enough supplies to cover being delayed for several days due to unfavourable sea/weather conditions.
- The role requires Field Officers to meet and liaise with contract vessel operators, visitor groups, overnight accommodation customers, researchers and any other visitors.
- The role requires Field Officers to undertake administrative duties including eftpos transactions, diary entries, ordering consumables and island inductions including the Code of Conduct.
- WHS protocols around vessel berthing and jetty closures are part of this role.
- This role includes a remote allowance.
**About You**
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Experience in ensuring work is undertaken with a commitment to the agency’s statutory obligations to care and maintain visitor facilities, park assets and the natural and cultural heritage values of parks.
- Demonstrated experience undertaking all duties, including manual handling, in accordance with the agency’s safe working procedures and the Workplace Health and Safety Act.
- Demonstrated ability to work alone or with a low level of supervision.
- Read through the attached SOW (Statement of Works) for further insights into this role.

**Essential requirements -**
- Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent and four-wheel driving certification.
- Demonstrated ability and experience to carry out all duties safely and ability to obtain relevant SafeWork NSW certification to appropriately operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment, including but not limited to conditionally registered vehicles, watercraft, lifting apparatus and road maintenance plant as well as the ability and willingness to obtain a First Aid certificate.
- Certification, or ability to obtain certification within the probationary period (up to 12 months) in operating a chainsaw to crosscut and basic tree felling standard; ability to operate two-way radio.
- Ability to carry out frontline firefighting duties and support roles including ability to obtain and maintain certification as a crew member or higher, within the probationary period (up to 12 months), and a willingness to fly in light aircraft.
- Field Officer applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass the task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter._
