**About the organisation**
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for delivering on the Victorian Government’s ambitious agenda to reform the Victorian Justice System. Under the influential executive leadership, DJCS is committed to the vision of a justice and community safety system that works together to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria. DJCS is a large and complex department with a broad scope of work, employing 16,000 FTE across metropolitan and regional Victoria and supporting 5 ministers and 10 portfolios including Emergency Services, Policing, Crime Prevention and Corrections, Youth Justice and Victim Support, Consumer Affairs, Gaming & Liquor Regulation and Workplace Safety.
**About the role**
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will support the DJCS Board of Management and the Deputy Secretary (Corporate Governance and Support), leading the central Finance and Performance business unit that is responsible for the department’s financial, budgetary, procurement, investment and performance analysis functions. With a strengthened accountability agenda and renewed focus on collaboration, innovation and efficiency, the CFO will have a license to drive change - uplifting capability and delivering cost savings and reform initiatives. As a trusted and valued business partner, this is a highly influential and visible role that will have strategic input, building strong partnerships across DJCS and its portfolio bodies, central agencies and service delivery agencies. Like all government CFO roles, the CFO will have a matrix reporting line to both the Deputy Secretary, Corporate Governance and Support of DJCS and the Deputy Secretary of Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF). The CFO leads a team of more than 180 (including 7 direct reports) and supports the Statement of Direction by strengthening the workforce culture and creating a productive environment where people thrive. The CFO is appointed by the Secretary, DTF in consultation with the Secretary, DJCS.
**About you**
As a professionally mature and technically skilled CA/CPA and emotionally intelligent finance leader with an appetite for change, you will bring extensive experience as an influential and strategic CFO from large, complex, matrix organisations - within government or private enterprise. You will have a strong connection to the value proposition of DJCS, with a desire to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people and the safety of all Victorians. You will enjoy complexity and a high-profile executive role that offers experiences to build aa pathway to organisational leadership positions. Your superior leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills have enabled you to gain credibility, build high-performing teams and evolve finance and procurement functions with your thought leadership and commitment to fiscal discipline, driving significant costs savings and uplifting capability at a macro and micro level.
