**_The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) is seeking to employ an experienced consultant to provide expert services in Neurology, based at Shoalhaven Hospital._**

We are looking for a Neurologist to develop Neurology services in the Shoalhaven in collaboration with the ISLHD Neurology Department. The Neurologist will have the opportunity to work with a group of Physicians at Shoalhaven Hospital with specialty expertise in general medicine, cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, endocrinology, renal medicine, medical oncology, radiation oncology and haematology.

The successful applicant will participate in Medical Grand Rounds and other duties as agreed with the Head of Department, including participation in Clinical Inpatient and Outpatient duties and district on-call rosters where required. All members of this Unit participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Three regular attendance days or part-days to make up 20h per week are required, distributed across the week, to provide for timely care and care continuity.

Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. We are well supported by a 14 bed ICU/HDU staffed by Intensivists. This is a great opportunity to join a growing hospital located on the beautiful NSW South Coast. Planning has commenced for redevelopment of the hospital to deal with future needs to 2031. There is excellent access to general practitioners locally and ample prospect for private practice if desired.

The Shoalhaven Hospital is affiliated with the University of Wollongong (UOW) with the Shoalhaven campus and supports the training of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff. As such there are teaching and research opportunities through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

**Selection Criteria**
- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Neurology and/or equivalent specialist recognition, or eligible to receive FRACP or complete Neurology Specialty training within six months.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities, policy and process development and service development relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
- Geographical availability commensurate with rostering, patient care, and site visit responsibilities.
