About us:
Bowan Island started 85 years ago in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Finding its roots in a small community in the Vancouver Islands, our starter has been continually fed, nurtured and curated since. This has allowed it to develop the signature full-bodied flavour present in every Bowan Island loaf.
Bowan now has a state-of-the-art central bakehouse, where our bakers continue to make world-class pastries, sourdough & granola -blending artisanal methodology with innovative new methods to deliver a superior product. Bowan Island’s First Artisan Bakehouse opens in Drummoyne, and is still open today. It was here we developed our signature cold fermentation process and dedication to using only the best, locally-sourced ingredients.
About the Roles:
The Head of Bakery is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the bakery's operations, ensuring the production of high-quality baked goods while maintaining efficiency and profitability. This role combines leadership, creativity, and operational expertise to drive innovation, uphold quality standards, and align the bakery's output with the brand's vision and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee production processes from start to finish with attention to detail. This will include hands on production, overseeing production staff, and ensuring efficient and timely production.
- Combination of managerial, administrative and hands on production responsibilities.
- Supervise a team of colleagues in a professional manner with good communication, great organizational and problem-solving skills to ensure optimal efficiency
- Allocating and retrieving goods as required for production, use of a variety of machinery and tooling within the process, through to packaging of finished goods.
- Implementing quality control techniques and procedures. Complete all the necessary HACCP/ Quality Assurance paperwork required in a timely and cohesive manner
- Maintain and keep the production areas clean at all times
- Ensuring that all work is conducted in a safe manner - complying with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
- Passion for Excellence, dedication to delivering consistent, high-quality baked goods that align with the brand’s vision and values.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience in professional baking, particularly in artisan breads and viennoiserie.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Passion for baking and a commitment to excellence.
- Must have 3 - 5 years experience in the food manufacturing
- Must have 2-3 year baking experience
- Must have sound knowledge of food safety and GMP
Forklift License would be a bonus
