**Your role**

The Walama list Casework Co-ordinator is part of a multi-disciplinary team, that focuses on supporting Aboriginal participants in the Walama List (NSW District Court) to stay engaged with and complete the court process. The role works with members of the Walama List Judiciary, Walama List team, stakeholders, and Elders and Respected People facilitating referrals, co-ordinating service provision and advocating on behalf of participants.

**What you’ll do**

We’re looking for a Casework Co-ordinator to the join the Aboriginal Services Unit during an exciting and innovative time. This role is for you if you want to be a part of a team that’s building mutually beneficial partnerships with legal stakeholders, the government and the non-government sectors, and the Aboriginal community, to deliver better justice outcomes for Aboriginal people, families, and communities.

You will be responsible for
- Providing Aboriginal participants and their families with practical supports to address any barriers to their participation in, and completion of, the Walama List.
- Updating case plans, attending court sittings and be available to assist and support Aboriginal participants.
- Work closely with Walama participants and their caseworkers to share appropriate information and co-ordinate service provision in accordance with the Walama List directions, including referring and/or facilitating entry into culturally appropriate education, treatment, cultural support or rehabilitative programs and other social welfare support services.
- Assisting the Walama List Program Lead and Walama List Judge in developing awareness of issues that impact on program outcomes for Aboriginal participants, including addressing barriers to their engagement and working with Elders and Respected Persons to embed culturally responsive practices across its operations.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specific services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and other government and non-government service providers.
- Identify and foster collaborative community networks and partnerships to increase culturally safe supports and promote awareness of the Walama List and its aims, through community education forums.

**What we’re looking for**
- NSW Working with children’s check for paid employment
- Aboriginality (see notes below)
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (diploma or higher) in social work, welfare, psychology, criminology, education or related field or equivalent experience.
- A current driver’s licence (unrestricted) and willingness to travel across Greater Sydney.
- It is an essential requirement of the role that successful applicants are fully vaccinated and able to provide acceptable proof of vaccination status.
- Experience working with Aboriginal offenders and their families
- Experience working with Elders and Respected Persons
- Experience in maintaining and establishing partnerships with stakeholders, caseworkers, and Legal representatives
- Experience working in a high-pressure court environment with competing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work autonomously and write reports.
- Documented verification of Aboriginality.

The Department will accept proof of Aboriginality confirming the following:

- You are an Aboriginal person of Aboriginal descent.
- You identify as being Aboriginal; and
- You are accepted as such by the community in which you live.

An acceptable form of documented verification is a “Confirmation of Aboriginality” letter, provided to you by a local Aboriginal organisation that includes a common seal from that organisation.
