**Role**

The Under 18 Student Welfare Officer role is designed to monitor and support the Under 18 (U18) students for the University of Adelaide College (UoAC) and The University of Adelaide (UoA) and to manage their educational journey as they successfully undertake their studies. This role is focused on student welfare while creating a source of support for students. The role will work closely with the Student Services Manager to drive the balance of the welfare and academic model.

**Responsibilities**
- Ensure the welfare of the UoAC’s and the UoA’s U18’s international students
- Assist students with issues relating to their studies
- Understand and comply with legislation and guidelines in accordance with professional and ethical standards of practice as a Student Welfare Officer
- Lead formal and informal meetings related to the welfare/well-being needs of the students
- Liaise and involve parents, carers and any support people/agencies in the development and well-being of the student where appropriate
- Complete administrative tasks and reporting requirements
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality and ensure your role meets duty of care obligations
- Run U18 specific orientation events for new students
- Educate students on U18 specific policies and procedures at UoAC & UoA
- Ensure all U18 students are being monitored and met with on a regular basis
- Direct involvement and referring to UoAC counselling, when necessary, with under 18 students
- Liaise with accommodation providers to maintain welfare and compliance with Under 18 rules
- Review and update under 18 policies and documents
- Provide support 24/7 to U18 students as needed

**Requirements**:

- Minimum 2 years’ experience in individualised or group support and case management with young people (essential)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to develop good relationships with stakeholders
- A demonstrated interest in student welfare and well-being with experience working with disadvantage and at-risk young people
- Excellent organisational, planning and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- IT literate (word, excel, outlook) and ability to quickly learn new systems
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate and or training (desirable)
- Demonstrated understanding of the Australian Education system (desirable)
- Diploma or higher qualifications in Human Sciences, Welfare, Youth Work, Social Sciences or Social Work (desirable)
- Up-to-date working knowledge of key legislation, policies and procedures relevant to international students
- Knowledge of ESOS, PRISMS, SVP and regulatory requirements
