CVGT has a fantastic career opportunity for a **Dental Assistant Traineeship**, which is the ideal opportunity for individuals looking to take the first steps to a successful and fulfilling career. **Located in Maryborough Victoria.**
The Dental Assistant (DA) Trainee position will be located at the **Maryborough Campus** of **Maryborough District Health Service** within the Community Dental team of Primary and Preventative Health. The overall objective of the position is to provide a trainee opportunity for the applicant to achieve the qualification **Certificate III Dental Assistant**.
This position will work closely with Dentists, Dental Therapists, Oral Health Therapists, other Dental Assistants and Administration to ensure that members of the community have accessible, efficient, effective and respectful public dental services.
The trainee will be supported to the level required to enable them to work closely with the Community Dental team to provide a flexible and responsive service to meet each client's dental needs. The trainee will be instructed in all elements of the Dental Assistant role including administrative and cleaning duties, assist with client management and will contribute to the smooth operation and ongoing development of the Community Dental department.
**Specific Responsibilities**:
- (The level of autonomy for each activity outlined below will depend on the completed modules and progress through the educational component of the course by the trainee Dental Assistant)_
- Supported to provide high quality Dental Assistant services to the client group and their families.
- Encouraged to take an active role in the establishment of the standards of practice for public dental services.
- Assisted to ensure Infection Control standards are adhered to during the treatment of clients, in the preparation of the area and the cleaning of equipment between clients.
- Work towards the complete preparation, presentation and sterilisation of all instruments and equipment as required.
- Depending on individual level of skill and competence assist Dentists, Dental Therapists, Oral Health Therapists and Under-Graduate Students in treatment and management of clients and their families.
- Under the direction of qualified dental assistant, plan and manage the workload to ensure adequate time for achievement of the primary objectives of the Community Dental clinic.
- Assisted and supported to document treatment in the patient's medical records as directed by the supervising clinician, in accordance with medico-legal documentation requirements.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining stock supplies for Community Dental Services.
- Supported to complete radiographic tasks as directed and within their scope of practice.
- Under direction, ensure the security of any drugs kept in the clinic in accordance with the relevant regulations.
- Assist and participate in Oral Health promotion projects either in the clinical setting or in the community as appropriate.
**Qualifications / Experience**
- Commitment to undertake training to complete the Certificate III Dental Assisting as directed by MDHS & CVGT Employment
- A current satisfactory Police Check and a Working with Children Certificate (or a willingness to attain these during the recruitment process).
**Specialist Expertise**
- Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake a broad range of clinical and non-clinical duties in line with learning.
