As the steward of the early childhood development system, the Office will act on the government's behalf, and work in collaboration with the sector, to organise and connect the system to reduce developmental vulnerability.

This includes strategy for the provision of quality preschool for all 3 and 4-year-olds, supporting families in the first 1000 days of a child’s life and implementing a workforce strategy.

**About the Role**:
The Principal Evidence Officer, in close collaboration with the Assistant Director, Evidence and Analytics, will provide high level strategic advice and planning across the research and evaluation agenda and specifically, the role will be responsible for providing research and evaluation support and materials for the Office.

The role will maintain up to date knowledge of current and emerging trends in early childhood education and care services to ensure that the analytical work supporting office’s work, proposals, projects and publications is based on up to date contemporary national and international practice.

In this role, you will:

- Lead and oversee the evaluation of initiatives on programs and projects as determined by the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care.
- Lead and oversee the successful initiation, delivery of evaluation and research projects to ensure they are developed according to best practice and evidence.
- Provide strategic advice and support on the development of the research projects across the office, including legislative requirements, budget and risk implications and opportunities.
- Work collaboratively in cross-directorate and cross-portfolio teams, including partnerships with universities and institutes to deliver the research goals.

**About You**:
To be successful in these roles, you'll bring essential:

- Experience in providing high level strategic advice and planning across the research and evaluation agenda.
- Sound knowledge of key government priorities, policies and processes that impact on the provision of early childhood education and care.
- Proven high level written and verbal communication with strong interpersonal skills including the capacity to convey complex information in a clear, succinct manner while successfully consulting, negotiating, and influencing all stakeholders.
- Completed an appropriate tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or relevant vocational experience and knowledge (desirable).

**Additional Note**:
This is a two year full-time term contract role (1.0 FTE) with potential for conversion to ongoing.

**Remuneration**:
ASO8 $121,107 - $125,679 (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation.

**Special Conditions**:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN -EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
