Therapeutic Support

_Camp Kiah is a therapeutic camp, created with a therapeutic play theoretical underpinning. As such we use diagnostically targeted and trauma informed attachment theory and focus on building a secure base for the children/young people while they are in our care. It is then our hope to work systemically with all other agencies and adults involved in their care to transition these attachments onto those who will be providing the ongoing support. This is particularly relevant for our participants who have a dual diagnosis of disability and mental health concerns or are living in an environment where these are daily contributing factors. _
- It is the responsibility of the therapeutic support to ensure that all programs, activities, interventions and interactions that occur on camp align with this theoretical underpinning, our vision, our mission and our values. _
- **Core Responsibilities**_
- Provide on program support and intervention for all young people accessing our services
- Create, implement and review therapeutic activities as part of the larger program. These will align with the needs of the young person/people, the theme of the program and the developmental level of the young people attending.
- To provide feedback for any young person engaged in our program that highlights an ongoing need. In particular first-time attendees, all campers attending with increased ratio, campers making disclosures, or demonstrating new or challenging behaviours.
- Work alongside Care Teams in providing feedback that assist with making assessments of young people to best determine the most appropriate therapeutic interventions required.
- **Administration Duties**_
- To provide support for all staff during programs
- To provide secondary consultation to Care teams as required
- To participate in Team Meetings / Care Team meetings for the purpose of planning, review and reinforcing the therapeutic interventions for young people
- To work directly with young people and their families, where more complex responses as required
- To provide group work to young people addressing a range of issues
- Active involvement in regular supervision
- Be available to work flexible hours including evenings where required
- Maintain appropriate case file documentation and engage in relevant data collection activities. Carry out administrative and program monitoring tasks as required
- Participate in Camp Kiah program planning as required
- Build cooperative partnerships with Care Teams and other professionals in the sector
- **Reporting Duties**_
- Report to the Therapeutic Team, which meets once a week to review all young people actively engaged in our programs.
- Provide all feedback to Program Coordinators who disseminate information to ensure that all communication channels are concise and clear for external agencies.
- All Child Protection reports will be completed either by, or in conjunction with the Therapeutic Support to ensure that all Policy 5 - Child Protection can be upheld.
- Therapeutic Support have a responsibility to ensure that the Reportable Conduct Scheme is upheld for all young people engaged in program.
- Therapeutic Support has a responsibility to ensure that the rights of the person with a disability are upheld at all times when accessing our programs.
- **Requirements**_
- Registration with an Allied Health regulatory body
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Expressive Therapies, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level 2.
- Experience working with young people who have complex needs
- A strong ability to develop therapeutic alliances with young people who have experienced significant family disruption, personal trauma and those who present with complex needs and dual diagnosis - disability and mental health concerns.
- A sound understanding of the theories relating to trauma and attachment as they relate to delivering a therapeutic response to young people.
- An ability to select and utilize relevant theoretical frameworks and tools in formulating suitable interventions of young people.
- The ability to work with Care teams to implement therapeutic interventions
- Ability to provide secondary consultation in relation to young people who present with complex needs, taking into consideration the most appropriate immediate response as well as short term, medium term and long-term needs
- Ability to utilize regular supervision and professional development
- An ability to deliver therapeutic training/workshops as required
