**About the Role**
We are seeking an academic to provide artistic and scholarly vision and coordination as a Specialist in Directing with VCA Drama. As the Specialist in Directing, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Master of Fine Arts (Directing), an industry-responsive performing arts program. You will contribute to teaching, learning, and research within VCA Drama and will have a strong professional knowledge of Australian theatre, the film and television sectors, historical and contemporary practitioners, and emerging and established training paradigms.

Responsibilities include:

- Preparing and delivering lectures, workshops, and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate coursework level
- Contributing to the artistic research programs of the VCA and being actively involved in professional activity
- Seeking and maximising opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration within the University and between VCA and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music disciplines and programs

**About You**

You will be an experienced academic with a background in engagement and/or ongoing research in directing theatre, acting for stage and screen, writing for performance, directing and dramaturgy, or theatre-making. You will be able and willing to contribute to the engagement activities of the Drama department, such as effective liaison with external networks to foster collaborative partnerships. You will possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to recognise and respect diversity and personal differences.

You will also have:

- A Ph.D. will be highly regarded but equivalent professional experience and demonstrated capabilities in research processes will be actively considered._ Applicants appointed without a graduate degree will be expected to enroll in a program of study within 12 months of commencement in the role_
- Demonstrated capacity to design and deliver curricula for contemporary arts practice in theatre
- Demonstrated capacity to develop a national research profile, undertaking independent original research and practice
- Ability to function as a vital and active member of VCA Drama’s academic team and to function at all times with integrity and professionalism and collegiality
- To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
