**About the Role**
The Research Assistant in Equine Science based at the Werribee Campus within the Melbourne Veterinary School supports the Equine Limb Injury Prevention Program (ELIPP) by gathering training and clinical data from horses in training.

Reporting to the Associate Professor, the role involves technical support for fieldwork studies, including fitting and operating instrumentation to collect data on speed, distance, stride length, and cardiac ECG monitoring during exercise.

Additionally, the position entails liaising with trainers, stable staff, and trackwork riders, maintaining horse training records, assessing track surface quality, and potentially conducting initial data analysis and reporting of results.

Travel to training facilities for fieldwork and occasional work from other locations, including the Parkville campus, is also required.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Collaborate with staff and students within the Equine Limb Injury Prevention Program to achieve agreed diagnostic and research outcomes.
- Assist veterinary clinicians (staff and RHD students) in collecting training data, lameness and radiographic data from horses in training.
- Contribute to the effective operation of equipment for data logging and analysis.
- Ensure the validity and security of data; and effective data backup.
- Collect and record horse information and consent procedures from trainers, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

**Who We Are Looking For**
You will bring your passion for equine science or equine sports medicine, along with your motivation, reliability, and adept time management skills.

You will also have:

- A postgraduate degree (Masters or Doctoral degree) in animal or veterinary sciences or a related discipline; progress towards a Masters or PhD; or a graduate degree in a relevant field with significant research and/or equine industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a comparable research assistant position or work in equine sciences.
- Good practical horse handling skills
