These positions were created in response to the ever-changing and complex nature of our context, and in response to staff feedback. Student engagement is an important contributing factor to student success (Ali, M. and Hassan, N., 2018). When supported to achieve this, teacher job satisfaction improves and students are better placed for academic success. Professional development opportunities through engaging in coaching and feedback develops teachers' capabilities in catering for the diverse needs of the learners in their classrooms. Roles and Responsibilities of the Coach (Engagement) positions at Bellmere SS includes but not limited to:
- Working across a sector of the school (P-2 or 3-6)
- Co-teaching with focus on developing teachers' skills in using Essential Skills for Classroom Management (ESCM)
- Modelling classroom management strategies and de-escalation strategies
- Observations of students in the classroom to evaluate strategies, behaviour patterns and triggers
- Collaboratively planning for behaviour and social-emotional interventions
- Chairing PCL PLTs
- Check-ins with students
- Attending parent meetings to support conversations
- Responding to requests for in-class support
- Liaising with Admin regarding professional development needs of staff
- Classroom Profiling upon request from individual teachers
- Facilitating small group social and emotional development sessions with students
- Resourcing for classroom management or individual student strategies
- Analysing data with teachers and teams to identify trends and targeted plans
- Supporting development of behaviour support plans (IBSPs, Safety Plans)
- Supporting Reflection Room and playground strategies (i.e. clubs, Play is the Way)
- Other tasks at the discretion of the Principal and Deputy Principal
