**Who we are**
The People and Policy Branch provides front line human resources (HR) for the department. We deliver timely and accurate support to our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, recruitment, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation.
The Recruitment Section manages the department’s recruitment activities as well as providing best practice advice on recruitment policy and legislation, to support the department in meeting its workforce needs. Our operating environment is driven by the needs of our business and its people, as well as the whole of the APS and department specific recruitment policies and programs. We have a strong focus on customer service and building trusted relationships. We strive to be agile, add value and deliver high quality services to meet the needs of our stakeholders and the department.
**The Job**
The duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
- leading the Recruitment Services Team which includes:
- managing team priorities
- managing staffing arrangements
- managing team capability development, performance and succession planning
- managing recruitment activity timeframes
- reviewing and implementing best practice recruitment solutions to improve operational effectiveness and inform business decisions
- managing escalations and complex recruitment enquiries
- engaging and working collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to achieve departmental people priorities, team goals and building strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- providing evidence-based advice and direction to managers and staff on HR policies and strategies
- providing specialist advice on the development of recruitment tools and bulk recruitment activities
- developing the implementation of nationally consistent approaches to bulk recruitment tools and methodology
- leading the team to ensure timely and effective service delivery of operational recruitment
- providing assistance to senior executives to support priority recruitment activities (ie the establishment of a new branch).
**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
- Knowledge and understanding (or the ability to quickly obtain) of the Australian Public Service recruitment legislative framework.
- Previous experience working in a busy operational recruitment environment.
