**Position Information**:
Birrong Public School is located in the Chullora Principals Network - Metropolitan South School Performance Directorate. The school has an enrolment of approximately 560 students and caters for a diverse student population, with 91% of students from a language background other than English (LBOTE). There are currently 30 language backgrounds, with Arabic and Vietnamese speaking backgrounds the largest groups.

The school is supported by a strong parent body. Students, staff, parents and community members are committed to strengthening partnerships to improve student learning outcomes. High standards are set and encouraged in teaching and learning programs. Opportunities for students are available in many areas including creative and performing arts, debating, sport, environmental education and student leadership. As a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, Birrong follows a holistic approach to child development and wellbeing.

There are approximately 47 school-based personnel including executive staff, classroom teachers, specialist EAL/D and Learning and Support (LaS) teachers, a school counsellor, administrative staff and a general assistant. Birrong Public School has an uncompromising focus on teaching and learning with a dedicated staff who have a range of teaching experience. Deep engagement in professional learning is underpinned by collaborative learning and planning with stage supervisors and Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction where teaching staff meet fortnightly to understand what is going on for our learners, target areas for development to improve student outcomes, and use consistent teacher judgment to ensure teaching and learning is making enough of a difference for all students.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with proven capacity to balance exemplary classroom practices and management with the complexities of a leadership role.

Demonstrated ability to model and implement evidence-based and data-driven practices, with a focus on the continuous improvement of student outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

Demonstrated capacity to manage and support whole school wellbeing practices and processes, resulting in enhanced student engagement and a positive, inclusive school culture.

Evidence of proactive, visible and approachable leadership, with experience in building positive and inclusive relationships with students, staff and parents across our culturally rich school community and wider network.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning- 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies.**Conditions**:
