**Who we are**
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is leading Australia’s response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and protect our environment, heritage and water.
The Office of the Science Convenor (OSC) provides advice to the Executive on enterprise-level strategic science issues. We are a small team, working to ensure that the best available science is being used to inform policy and decision making by:
- identifying and advocating for our scientists and understanding their needs
- improving science communication and policy translation
- facilitating and strengthening science partnerships across and outside government
- convening an interdepartmental Science Council of senior scientists and emerging science leaders.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a small, fast-paced team environment and presents unique on-the-job learning and development opportunities. As a member of this dynamic team, you will contribute to science strategy with a whole of department focus, working with departmental science leaders, Executive and Corporate teams. You will support the team in developing and facilitating enterprise-wide strategic partnerships on behalf of the department with high-profile science agencies including CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, and the university sector. You will play an important role in evaluation by gathering insights from these partnerships and also more broadly across existing departmental science networks to help define forward priorities and support reporting to departmental science leaders and executives.
**The Job**
In this role you will:
- assist in facilitating departmental strategic science partnerships through supporting governance mechanisms that underpin enterprise-level, collaborative agreements
- support the Office of the Science Convenor and DCCEEW senior executive in providing secretariat support for strategic meetings, implementing actions arising and reporting on progress
- support the Office of the Science Convenor and DCCEEW’s senior executive in the design of creative methods toward maximising engagement across the department’s science networks
- work collaboratively and flexibly in a small team to achieve cross-cutting outcomes for the Office of the Science Convenor team and the department.
**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
- Relevant experience in related or similar roles with emphasis on stakeholder engagement and science-related business development.
- Relevant experience in information collection for impact monitoring, evaluation and reporting is highly desirable.
**Skills and capabilities**
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis and interpretation skills.
- Ability to contribute flexibly and positively across dynamic priorities in a small team environment.
**Mandatory qualifications**
A Bachelor's degree in science (any discipline) or science communication.
**Eligibility and other requirements**
**Citizenship**
- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
**Security Clearance**
- This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
