The Coordinator, Communications contributes to the development and delivery of corporate communication projects, planning and connecting audiences across Deakin. As part of the Vice-Chancellor portfolio, the role works across Deakin’s Executive Vice-President (Futures) and Executive Vice-President (Resources) portfolios with a focus on partnering with Digital Services (DS). In this position you will coordinate the implementation of communications for DS to ensure awareness, alignment, and consistency of messages. This role creates and coordinates engaging content while partnering with stakeholders on communications and change projects.

This 12-month position represents an opportunity to work in a prestigious area of the University and would suit someone who has experience writing sequenced communications for projects, although this experience is not essential as guidance is available. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Media and Corporate Affairs, you will need to enjoy writing and be capable of tailoring communications to different stakeholder groups. The ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences would also be beneficial.

The Coordinator, Communications will need to establish a presence on campus but there is flexibility to work several days per week from home. You will need to ensure you develop a deep understanding of the key teams across allocated portfolios and foster a community of practice to align communication activities. Key to success in the position is your initiative, stakeholder partnering capability and capacity to write engaging and appropriate content.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Working with the Senior Manager, Media and Corporate Affairs, contributing to the implementation, and evaluation of a multi-layered, proactive-focused media and corporate affairs strategy
- Proactively building and maintaining relationships with internal and external teams and stakeholders, and Deakin faculty and portfolio contacts, to provide an end-to-end corporate communication partnering service and develop the required content
- Selecting appropriate channels for communication and engagement activities with a particular focus on leveraging and further developing existing communication channels
- Providing communication support to staff across the University and external stakeholders, drawing on the expertise of the specialist media team as required
- Supporting the administrative functions of the Media and Corporate Affairs team, including uploading and distributing a variety of content
- Seeking feedback on improvement opportunities from a diverse range of key stakeholders and implementing change through appropriate channels and overcomes obstacles to change
- Challenging existing processes by formulating creative and inclusive alternative solutions and benefits
- Planning and prioritising work and critical activities appropriately and recognising barriers to achieving outcomes, finding effective ways to deal with them and evaluating progress
- Striving for excellence and establishing short to mid-term operational plans to meet Deakin’s strategic priorities
- Planning and overseeing all aspects of the end-to-end project to deliver sustainable outcomes, value within constraints of time, cost and quality
- Developing and implementing practical, accessible solutions based on stakeholder needs
- Identifying, leading, and actively promoting change within own area of responsibility and understanding and communicating the reasons for the change
- Establishing and demonstrating a high level of learning, energy and commitment and maintaining personal integrity and making decisions consistent with University values

**To be successful, you will have**:

- A degree and subsequent relevant experience in communication, journalism, public relations or relevant discipline, or a combination of appropriate qualifications; or
- Experience and a demonstrated ability to implement a media or corporate affairs plan
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- An appetite to thrive in a high-level, detail-focused, fast-paced communications environment
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, and navigating short, competing, and changing deadlines
