Macquarie Business School is currently inviting expressions of interest from appropriately qualified and professionally experienced people to take tutorials in the Bachelor of Commerce Capstone during the day and/or evening. Appointed casual academic staff are expected to undertake student consultation and mark assessments.

The Bachelor of Commerce

In the Bachelor of Commerce, students study a set of extensive and integrated foundation units that will orient you to commerce and business, followed by one or two majors to develop depth and specialisation in your chosen discipline. Students also acquire a set of sought-after employability skills - data literacy, business analysis, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, critical thinking and a global mindset, among others - all key competencies that today’s top employers regard extremely highly.

Essential Criteria

To be considered for tutor positions, applicants must possess the following:
- An undergraduate degree (3 years +) or equivalent post graduate qualification relevant to their desired teaching discipline(s);- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others;- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with students; and, Desired Criteria- More than three years of experience teaching in a higher education setting;- Teaching at least two distinct disciplinary areas (sub-disciplines of a disciplinary area can count as separate areas);- Participation in at least three professional development workshops in the last five years;- Participation in a peer-observation process in the last three years - either as an observer or as the observed;- Ability to facilitate a two-hour tutorial that does not revolve around content delivery, but rather on skills acquisition;- Expertise in a _guide-by-the-side _pedagogy as opposed to a _sage-on-the-stage _pedagogy;- Experience in working across disciplinary areas of commerce and/or beyond commerce;- Positive student feedback - quantitative or qualitative - formal or informal.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in facilitating active learning approaches. This involves actively engaging students with the course material through discussions, problem solving, case studies, role plays and other methods. You may be required to attend an active learning workshop (hosted by Macquarie Business School) as a condition of employment.

Preference will also be given to applicants who hold higher, relevant degrees, demonstrate higher levels of recent experience, and have teaching experience, preferably at university level.
