**Position Information**:
Aberdeen Public School is located in the small township of Abderdeen, approximately 10 minutes north of Muswellbrook along the New England Highway and 2 hours north-west of Newcastle. The school has 7 stage-based classes, 5 of which are compsites, and a student enrolment of 170 students. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced middle leader to join our Executive team. The school has an enrolment buffer of 197 and a cap of 207.

Among the student population, 25% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The school has associations with the Upper Hunter AECG and Wonnarua Land Council, both based in the nearby town of Muswellbrook. Other cultural backgrounds of our students include Thai, Maori and Filipino. 100% of students speak English at school and whilst translation services are offered, families indicate they are not required.

The school is part of a community movement to improve the mental health of young people. Strategies to promote our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others are explicitly taught through PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) and VWB (Visible Wellbeing) strategies. Character strengths have been a sustained focus and there is an emphasis on using strengths-based language to reflect on action and attitude to manage student behaviour. Shared values are communicated through the PBL core expectations and desired behaviours across different settings.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

1. Demonstrated ability to lead, model and implement high impact instruction to achieve continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy.

2. Ability to lead school initriatives that build sustainable partnerships and increase student and parent engagement to strengthen school culture.

3. Proven capacity to lead and manage the development, review and communication of school procedures and process that align with DET policy.

4. Demonstrated ability to successfully perform the complex role of an on-class Assistant Pincipal.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5.
