The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University is one of the world’s leading performing arts academies and is poised for future ongoing success as it prepares to move into the new ECU City Campus in 2026.
The music program is one of the most diverse in Australia, encompassing jazz, contemporary music, composition and sonic arts, and classical music. Contemporary music is a thriving and rapidly growing program spanning multiple course levels (including Diploma of Music, Advanced Diploma of Music, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Education, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy).
The discipline encompasses contemporary performance (across voice, guitar, bass, drums, singing for music theatre, and more), ‘music artist’ (songwriting) and soon ‘music production.’
WAAPA is looking to appoint an outstanding performer and educator in contemporary music for a fixed term appointment from 13 February to 31 December 2025. This part-time (0.6) Associate Lecturer (level A) appointment offers opportunities for a dynamic musician with industry experience, teaching track record, and strong administrative capacity.
Higher degree qualifications or equivalent industry experience (essential)
Certificate IV in workplace training and assessment (essential)
Evidence of an established professional profile and strong industry networks (essential)
Demonstrable research capacity (desirable)
A proven track record of successful tertiary teaching in contemporary music (essential)
Ability to contribute to multiple specialities within the discipline, including theory/aural, ensembles, and principal study keyboard (essential)
Ability to recruit students (desirable)
High level of administrative and organisational skills/experience, including the ability to function as a unit coordinator in both a higher education and vocational training environment (essential)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (essential)
Benefits & Remuneration
This part-time, fixed-term position attracts remuneration of $80,938 to $108,498 pa pro-rata plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
