About The Position:
The Technical Officer will be responsible for providing expert technical service and advice to support the functions and users of the Pathology laboratories. The role will also be responsible for maintaining and demonstrating the operation of laboratory equipment and instruments, while also providing technical support to staff and students. The incumbent will ensure the maintenance of the laboratories and support the adoption and implementation of OHS standards, ensuring delivery of client centric, professional service.

The position will be responsible for the procurement of minor equipment and consumables, preparation and set-up of material and equipment for Anatomical Pathology/Histology classes and will contribute to the maintenance and operation of instrumentation, laboratories and supporting facilities. The appointee will be expected to develop and maintain documentation including, but not limited to safe operating procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments (RAs).

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

- Knowledge and experience working in an Anatomical Pathology/ Histology laboratory (essential) preferably within a diagnostic environment.
- Proven knowledge and experience in the use of a variety of histological stains.
- Proven knowledge and experience in microtomy.
- Experience and knowledge in the routine operation, maintenance and training of various instruments related to an Anatomical Pathology/ Histology laboratory.
- Experience in microscopy and preparation of cytological specimens (will be an advantage).
- Proven track record of building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including understanding, and embracing a client focused framework.
- Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with a sound knowledge of industry regulations and standards related to the field within the scope of the outlined service area.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of working in accordance with the RMIT value statements or similar frameworks in other organisations.

Qualifications:
Degree or higher qualifications in Pathology/Histopathology or a related discipline, and relevant experience. A valid Working with Children Check is mandatory.
