**ABOUT THE ROLE**

This position undertakes and delivers the day-to-day activities of the commercial team. Working closely with the Commercial Manager, and other team members, the Commercial Analyst is responsible for developing and maintaining the analytical framework to support business activities in the Australian business. In addition, the role provides support on a range of matters, including optimizing TransAlta’s position in the Wholesale Electricity Market, ensuring compliance with market rules, contractual obligations, and contract administration

**WHAT WILL YOU DO**
- Responsible for providing analytical support to the Australian business’ existing operations and integration of growth opportunities, some of which include:

- Maintaining and developing detailed models to optimise contractual performance.
- Maintain and develop dashboards and tools to assist in day-to-day optimisation of our generation portfolio.
- Develop analysis to identify impacts on the business for integration of new assets into the portfolio.
- Keep up to date with longer term trends in the markets that we operate.
- Maintain and improve tools, models and data bases used to support corporate budget forecasting and variance analysis.
- Maintain and improve models and data bases used to support invoicing for existing PPAs and amend these as necessary to integrate growth projects.
- Provide analysis to support TransAlta’s daily interactions within the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).
- Responsible for providing data and analysis to support the management of key commercial contracts including long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs); support contractual decisions that will optimize long-term.
- Assist with development of strategy across the commercial portfolio and in relation to maximizing long-term value from existing generation and electricity network assets within the portfolio.
- Assist with maintaining and updating relevant data and databases for operational performance monitoring, reporting purposes, calculation of invoices, and supporting documentation as required by our contracts.
- Responsible for driving forward and participating in small to large sized initiatives to create better efficiencies within the commercial team.
- Provide support for regulatory issues as required.

**ABOUT YOU**

**As our Commercial Analyst you must meet or exceed the following qualifications and experience**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering or similar.
- 10+ years post qualification experience in a commercial role, preferably in the energy or resources industry.
- Demonstrated capability to understand and manage risk effectively, balancing short and long-term business requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of regulatory and government environments within the Western Australian energy market.
- Demonstrated capability to manage commercial issues and deliver to defined expectations.
- Experience with analytical tools such as Power BI, R, Python, MATLAB or similar is desirable.
