The facility teaches through a bilingual approach, developing both English and Auslan communication and valuing both languages. The family¿s communication choice is important and supported through the learning goals. Oral communication is developed through daily audition and speech activities. Regular networking with the Cochlear Implant Clinic and Australian Hearing allows up to date technological support.
Deaf students are integrated into classrooms and Auslan/English interpreters are provided to support communication between all staff and students. Deaf role models are a valued part of our facility. All students and teachers at Guthrie Street Primary School learn Auslan in weekly classroom sessions.
Our facility rooms have noise reduction technology for educational support. In consultation with parents, students are withdrawn into quiet rooms for audition and speech development and to support other Individual Education Plan goals. Students participate in weekly Deaf Studies lessons exploring Australian Deaf history and culture.

Staff members plan and work together in teams. Specialist classes cover a combination of art, physical education and music. The school focuses on developing students with a positive outlook on life, high self-esteem and a willingness to participate actively.
