**The Role**
The position supports the department meet its personnel and physical security obligations as defined in the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF). The role’s focus is on personnel security and includes ensuring prospective staff satisfy pre-employment screening requirements, ongoing staff and contactors remain suitable to access Australian Government resources and all departmental offices obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance (Baseline as a minimum). Security container management and changing combinations may also be required. Reporting to the Senior Personnel Security Officer, the Personnel Security Officer is responsible for the facilitation and management of security clearances for all staff and contractors. This involves maintaining a strong working relationship with the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) on clearances the department has requested.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Duties of the position would include:

- Pre-employment activities through document verification and police records checks.
- Using the AGSVA myClearance Portal to lodge and manage security clearance activities.
- When necessary, escalating issues to the AGSVA Customer Relations Support Team.
- Using various management tools to ensure all documents and decisions are fully recorded.
- Assisting with the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other documentation to support compliance with the PSPF.
- Monitoring the Protective Security mailbox and hotline resolving issues and providing security clearance advice to staff and contractors.
- Undertaking physical security duties as required.
