Our Client is a Brisbane Based Public Sector Authority. They are looking to engage a Science Technician to join their Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity division as part of the diagnostic team providing services on their Panama Program.

**Your new role**

Your new role within the diagnostics team focusses on the containment and control of tropical disease, aiming to minimise outbreaks within the community. You will be providing technical support to the team by facilitating rapid identification of diseases. This will be done through triaging, preparing and submitting specimens for examination as well as conducting Molecular Analysis of Samples.

Additional accountabilities:
You will be involved in visual diagnostics, fungal isolations, microscopy (taxonomic identification), VCG testing and molecular analysis for the diagnosis of Panama disease specimens. Simultaneously contributed to the development, validation, and delivery of molecular diagnostics for exotic plant pests and diseases (PCR, RT-PCR, DNA sequence analysis).- You will maintain and perform routine calibration of laboratory equipment according to the equipment quality maintenance schedule.- You will maintain diagnostic records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), which manages data that critically supports the rapid and accurate diagnosis of endemic, exotic and newly emerging plant pests and diseases in Queensland.- Perform laboratory tasks and activities according to the applicable standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines to meet the business needs of the Plant Biosecurity Laboratory and Biosecurity Queensland.- Participate in a multidisciplinary teamwork in plant biosecurity and provided assistance to other roles in the laboratory at the request of the principal scientist.
