Working from our showroom in Smith St Fitzroy, the Gallery Coordinator is key to managing artist relationships, stockroom product management, exhibition planning and execution, art-related copy writing and developing new print editions. We are looking for an experienced Gallery Coordinator to join our back-of-house team. Modern Times is a dynamic space hosting exhibitions, events and an ever-changing range of unique and one-off artwork and objects. The Gallery Coordinator is key to managing artist relationships, stockroom product management, exhibition planning and execution, art-related copy writing.
Working closely with the directors, the Gallery Coordinator has the opportunity to bring their art and curatorial knowledge into the future direction of Modern Times. The successful applicant will need excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude and confidence self-managing a variety of tasks and maintaining an organised work flow. This role could be part-time or full-time depending on availability.
You will need to be able to demonstrate
- Experience in a similar role
- A passion for the visual arts and design, fostering artist relationships
- Excellent communication skills both within a team and to external stakeholders
- Knowledge of the art industry
- Basic Illustrator and Photoshop skills
Your responsibilities will include
- Planning and rolling-out the exhibition calendar
- Fostering new and existing artist relationships
- Onboarding new artists, designers and new works
- Managing the day-to-day receiving of artworks and stockroom management
- Writing artwork descriptions, exhibition essays and press releases
- Preparing exhibition collateral - invites, catalogues etc - using existing Adobe CS templates
- Working alongside our Marketing Coordinator to roll-out exhibition and event communication. Ensuring consistent representation in the gallery and online.
