St Paul’s Cathedral is the home church of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne and the seat of the Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne, who is also the Metropolitan of the Anglican Province of Victoria. The Cathedral is governed by the Chapter, with the Archbishop as President, and its daily operations are led by the Dean of Melbourne alongside a team of clergy and lay staff.

Located at the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets, St Paul’s is Victoria’s most visited sacred site, welcoming over 78,000 worshippers and around 500,000 visitors each year. The Cathedral is open every day for worship, visiting, and community activities, with three Sunday congregations and fifteen weekday services.

**About the Role**

Our new **Visitor Centre and Gift Shop** marks the beginning of an exciting new era of visitor engagement at St Paul’s Cathedral. We are seeking a **friendly, enthusiastic, and customer-focused Sales Assistant** to join our team.

In this role, you will provide exceptional customer service to visitors, assist with retail sales, and support the Commercial Manager in achieving our retail objectives. You’ll help create a warm and professional environment that reflects the Cathedral’s values, ensuring every visitor has a positive experience.
The successful applicant will undergo clearance for service prior to commencing their role, in preparation for which they need to submit a Working with Children Check and current Police Certificate and undertake relevant safeguarding training.

This position reports to the **Commercial Manager**.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Deliver outstanding customer service to all visitors.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of our product range and be able to explain product features and stories to customers.
- Assist with merchandising and ensure the shop is tidy, well-stocked, and visually appealing.
- Process cash and card payments accurately and complete end-of-day reconciliation.
- Fulfil and package online orders for postage.
- Monitor the shop space to ensure it remains safe and accessible to all visitors.
- Support and, when required, guide volunteers during their shifts.
- Stay informed about Cathedral events and services to assist visitors effectively.
- Liaise with staff and volunteers to deliver a welcoming visitor experience.
- Perform other reasonable duties as directed.

**Key Selection Criteria**

**Essential Experience and Knowledge**
- Previous experience in a customer-facing retail, sales, or hospitality role.
- Confident handling cash and contactless payment systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service.
- Understanding of shop safety and best practices.

**Desirable Experience**
- Experience working in a heritage, tourism, or visitor attraction setting.
- Familiarity with Shopify POS.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Understanding of retail branding and merchandising techniques.
