Our school vision
- 'Nurturing Our Future¿
- is underpinned by four core values of improvement and connection: respect, responsibility, excellence, and inclusion.
This vision is the underlying premise upon which all teaching and learning at our school are based. We do this by ensuring the needs of the students academically, socially, and emotionally, are the basis of all our energies. We grow the voice, agency, and development of our learners through intentional practices and support.
The core disciplines of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, and Digital Technology are integrated with other capabilities. At Newport Gardens we strive to develop independent thinkers and creative problem solvers. Our students develop strong intra and inter-personal skills to communicate face to face, electronically or virtually by knowing themselves well and by understanding others. At Newport Gardens Primary School, we are committed to understanding our environment and reducing the negative impact we have upon it on by thinking globally and acting locally.
Our educators and learners work within learning communities whereby teaching teams take collective responsibility for the overall development of our students.
Our school site was established in 2011 after the merge of two local school communities. School facilities, which were built through a combination of Federal grants through the Building the Education Revolution program, and State Government funding, resulted in a complete rebuild of the school in 2011. These facilities provide the school with a fully functioning library, art room with kiln, administration block including offices, conference and meeting rooms, gymnasium, stage, kitchen and garden, science lab as well as 17 permanent classrooms and 9 portable classrooms. Our main building supports collaborative spaces through shared neighbourhoods used for withdrawal groups, social thinking groups and our school library.
Newport Gardens Primary School supports 555 learners from Prep to Year 6. Our staff, comprising 24 classes and 6 specialist teachers, 5 classroom-based Education Support Staff and our School Improvement Team.
We place a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy, as well as incorporating ICT across all grade levels. We offer a range of specialist programs including Creative Arts, Physical Education, LOTE
- (Japanese). Students also have the opportunity to participate in instrumental music and a variety of sporting teams, a school concert, art show and other school performances. We are also a partner school for Respectful Relationships.
As a School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support school we implement a framework that brings together our school community in developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture.
