**Who we are**
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. Our land and seascapes are distinctive, home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world, and to some of the oldest living cultures on earth. These environments and cultures are an essential part of our national identity, and visitors travel from across the country and the world to experience them. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.

Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park is named after two of Australia’s most spectacular sites: the world-famous sandstone monolith of Ululu and the red domes of Kata Tjuta. Our dual World Heritage-listed park is in the heart of the Central Australian desert, about 450 km from Alice Springs. The land is owned by the Anangu people and leased to Parks Australia, who manage the national park in collaboration with the Traditional Owners. Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park was handed back to its Traditional Owners in 1985, the park has been jointly managed by Anangu and the Australian Government. All management policies and programs aim to maintain Anangu culture and heritage; conserve and protect the integrity of the ecological systems in and around the park; provide for visitor enjoyment and learning opportunities in the park. The Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa landscape is and will always be a significant place of knowledge and learning.

The Caring for Country and Culture (CCC) Section consists of a diverse team who, together with traditional owners, are responsible for the conservation and management of both the natural and cultural values of the jointly managed World Heritage National Park in accordance with both the Tjukurpa and Australian law.

**The Job**
As the Cultural Heritage Team Leader you will be required to lead, mentor and support other staff in a cross-cultural environment. You will also share the Traditional Owner’s vision for the future of the park and encourage, facilitate and participate in the exchange of knowledge, experience and skills between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, the community and public.

Duties will include, but aren't limited to:

- Coordinating and implementing on-country Caring for Country and Culture Programs with a strong emphasis on youth and cultural heritage conservation.
- Maintaining a strong collaborative working relationship with Anangu in the development and delivery of cultural heritage programs.
- Integration of programs and scheduling of activities with other CCC Coordinators.
- Planning and leading field-based activities.
- Maintaining, implementing and updating 4-year Action Plans for key areas of CCC work related to the implementation of the Park Management Plan.
- Reporting on progress on cultural heritage management actions and activities to the Tjungkula Ngura Artungmara Manage Country Together Working Group.
- Facilitating specialist training activities for both Anangu and non
- Anangu Park staff.
- Liaison with departmental support staff and researchers.
- Overseeing functional use of cultural heritage components of the Park’s natural and cultural heritage management database.

You will be working with a small, friendly and dynamic team, including Park rangers with a range of different skills and backgrounds, working across multiple projects simultaneously. Coordinators within the team are responsible for overseeing the implementation of programs of activity specific to their area of responsibility but are expected to work closely together as a team to achieve integrated outcomes for natural and cultural heritage management.

**Please note** that this recruitment process is advertised as both an ongoing and non-ongoing position. If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant would be employed for an initial period of 12 - 18 months with the possibil
