The Principal Policy Officer, Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) provides expert policy and strategic advice related to substance use or addiction. This includes leading the development and implementation of:

- a broad range of priority AOD projects and initiatives
- integrated treatment, care and support in response to the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System

The Principal Policy Officer is a key leadership role in the AOD Policy Team. Working as part of the team, the Principal Policy Officer will collaborate with people with lived and living experience of AOD, their carers, families and supporters, service providers, AOD clinicians, researchers, government departments and other experts in delivering key reform priorities.

- Experienced at building and maintaining successful relationships with a broad range of stakeholders?

Accountabilities
- Develop policy initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Provide authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative solutions to complex issues based on comprehensive research.
- Maintain an excellent understanding of AOD issues impacting the health service sector, as well as Commonwealth and State legislative and policy directions. Proactively identify opportunities and manage risk.
- Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, Cabinet and agency submissions.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and senior staff and develop innovative strategies and methods which assist the department to deliver on key AOD policies and initiatives.
- Represent the department on internal and external committees and meetings and promote a broader understanding of AOD policy objectives.
- Lead and coordinate activities and projects that aim to improve the quality and safety of AOD services.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
