At Compass, improving the school day for everyone - staff, parents, and students - has been the driving force behind our widespread success. Our mission is to make every school day more efficient and enjoyable, so that everyone can learn to thrive. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for a talented Product Designer to help us make every school day a great experience.
**The Role**:
As a Junior Product Designer, you’ll join a respected and welcoming design team, with a clear career progression plan. You’ll work closely with a range of small, cross-functional teams to improve products that touch every aspect of school life, from attendance call, classes, and homework, to canteens, yearbooks, and more.
**As a Junior Product Designer at Compass, you'll**:
- Make a real difference, at scale. Our products are used by millions of people across Australia, Ireland, and the UK, every single day. You’re involved in everything from product strategy and customer research to UI implementation, so your work has great impact.
- Have the opportunity to gain and practice the skills that will enable you to own the design process for small but interesting projects from end-to-end. You’ll work with your engineering and product partners to ship work that matters, with a good balance of autonomy and support as you level up your craft.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, product owners, customer success advocates and more, in an environment where user experience is a respected part of shipping high quality products.
- Create a shared understanding of our customers’ problems across our organisation through research, analysis, and data storytelling.
- Contribute to our Compass Design System by maintaining, improving, and building design components, and collaborating with software engineers to bring your designs to life.
**Requirements**:
**What you’ll bring**:
- A design portfolio that shows your strengths in User Experience (UX) / digital product design and User Interface (UI) design that you’re excited to talk about for hours.
- An interest in, or experience with conducting customer research.
- A keen eye for detail and quality.
- A knack for storytelling, which helps you explain design decisions clearly and convincingly.
- An understanding of platform conventions for the web. If you’re familiar with iOS and Android too, that’s even better
- Digital product design related qualifications are a plus, but it’s your skills and your desire to learn and grow as a designer that are the most important.
**Benefits**
**What’s in it for you?**:
- Meaningful work in a rewarding industry that allows you to contribute to a mission that you believe in
- Flexible working culture - flexi-hours, hybrid working environment
- Professional development opportunities & funding
- Parental Leave Program for both primary and secondary carers
- 24/7 access to our Employment Assistance Program (EAP) through the means of face-to-face, live chat and phone support
- Team monthly social events and weekly free lunches
**Compass is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace and celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.**
**Prior to starting your role with us, we’ll need you to provide**
- a valid Employee Working With Children Check
- verification of unrestricted work rights in Australia, eg citizenship, passport, or birth certificate
