At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive - and that it’s all driven by human intelligence.
Because it takes human intelligence to build and power the systems and solutions that people depend on every day. So we stay curious and make space for diverse points of view. We share what we know and we challenge what’s possible.
From manufacturing and engineering to cybersecurity and space, we’re driving progress in some of the world’s most important industries - and working together to build a future we can all trust.
As the Head of Industry 4.0, you will lead the transformation to create digitally empowered industrial operations.
This role is pivotal in advancing technology by integrating data, connectivity, and smart devices. You will focus on building connected factories that are human centric to leverage data effectively, automate repetitive tasks, reduce risks in complex or hazardous activities, and ensure reliability.
Our goal is to use automation to capture critical data and harness processing power for heavy-lifting tasks, allowing our teams to focus on making informed decisions and adding value where they are most impactful.
Located in Rydalmere, on Darug land, your role purpose will be
- Lead the development and implementation of the digital transformation roadmap, focusing on automation systems and digital solutions to enhance supply chain, manufacturing and repair / maintenance processes
- Oversee the end-to-end integration of automation and digital tools, ensuring a seamless connection between industrial operations and the broader Group's digital transformation initiatives
- Work with internal teams and the Group's digital transformation team to deploy innovative technologies, e.g. robotics and advanced maintenance / manufacturing systems
- Implement and manage data-driven transformation projects, ensuring solutions are aligned with operational goals and driving measurable improvements.
- Propose and manage budgets for digital initiatives, track impact on ICC performance, and ensure ROI through robust business case oversight
On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours:
- Experience in digitalisation and automation within industrial settings, ideally in manufacturing, maintenance, or similar industries
- In-depth knowledge of digital technologies, industrial systems, and production/repair processes in particular MES and CMMS
- Skilled in analytical techniques (e.g., PDCA), industrial IT systems, and decision-support tools (e.g., dashboards), with knowledge of ISA 95 and Agile methodology
- Strong leadership abilities with a focus on generating long-term commitment and empowering teams
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to mobilise resources and build strong professional networks
- Relevant certifications in automation, digital technologies, or industrial management (e.g., APICS, ISA-95)
- Demonstrates transparency, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and is adaptable to change
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or related field
- Must be eligible for Australian Defence Clearance
**Please note that Thales will be closed from 23 December 2024 and will reopen on 6 January 2025.**
It’s easy to dismiss the perfect opportunity if you don’t see yourself as the perfect fit. If this role feels right - no matter your background or personal circumstances - please introduce yourself or join our community. We’re committed to supporting a diverse workplace, and that starts here.
We’re proud to be endorsed by WORK180 as an Employer for All Women, but we know there’s always more we can do. We’ll continue to foster industry partnerships, employee resource groups (ERGs) and development opportunities to make Thales a genuinely equitable employer, for everyone.
