About This Opportunity
You will contribute as a Mixed Practice Clinician to provide veterinary clinical service teaching as part of UQ VETS clinical service, with the focus being on contribution within the School’s Production Animal Service Team. This includes health and wellness exams, vaccinations and other disease prevention measures, primary or secondary opinion consultations, diagnostic work-ups and surgical procedures and treatments of patients presenting to these services. The incumbent will also participate in the afterhours and weekend duty rosters.
In addition to ensuring excellence in clinical care, you will actively participate in the clinical and pre-clinical teaching and instruction of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary science and veterinary technology students as well as clinical training of interns and residents.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide high-quality clinical services and independently manage both routine and difficult veterinary cases
- Work collegiately with other members of the VTH team to facilitate continuity of care and access to specialist or referral services.
- Provide support, advice and training to VTH staff including support staff, veterinary nurse and technicians, and clinicians, to ensure the VTH can maintain high standard of care for patients and clients.
- Identify and contribute to opportunities for improvement within the hospital.
- Actively promote and foster the School of Veterinary Science’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.
- Build service caseload through enhancement of service and professional profile and actively developing and maintaining relationships with potential ambulatory service clients.
- Actively participate in the clinical training for undergraduate and postgraduate students, interns and residents..
- Contribute towards teaching into undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the BVSc(Hons) and BVetTech programs.
- Provide support to school and university researchers in the planning and delivery of research projects.
This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months to cover parental leave.
At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $93,254.55 - $101,680.96, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $109,107.82 - $118,966.72 annually.
About You
- A degree in Veterinary Science (or equivalent), registerable in Queensland.
- Relevant experience in the delivery of veterinary clinical service in production animal practice and demonstrated experience performing at an advanced clinical level which may include:
- Award of membership of ANZCVS or equivalent
- Completion of an internship
- Experience of more than 4 years in the delivery of rural/mixed practice veterinary services or equivalent experience.
- Mixed practice and or small animal clinical experience will be desirable.
- Commitment and enthusiasm for the education of Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students and a demonstrated ability to teach students in a clinical setting to a high standard, using a range of approaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and consultation skills and formal written and oral communication skills.
