**Job Opportunity**:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join our Corporate Property team in Melbourne. The role will be responsible for developing and expanding new business opportunities through production & marketing meetings with brokers and customers, utilising good underwriting acumen to select sound risks within the company’s guidelines.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Manage and build a Corporate Property book of business, which includes primary/excess layers, multi-year policies and other bespoke structural placements.
- Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships to maximise new and renewal business opportunities.
- Prequalify accounts, utilising, underwriting acumen to select property risks within company’s risk appetite.
- Underwrite assigned accounts ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation.
- Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our partners.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick thoughtful decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
- Work closely with our in-house claims team to help create a positive and transparent experience for our customers.

**Qualifications, Skills and Experience**:

- 2+ years of commercial property insurance experience is preferred.
- Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly.
- Strong underwriting acumen.
- Experience and strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts.
- Experience marketing to specialised brokers.
- Strong collaboration and team building skills.
- Strong communication skills including negotiation, communications, and presentation experience.
- Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications.
