**Role Purpose**

This position is expected to actively participate in organisational processes - including the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives and related training - and by so doing, help to identify and address the limitations of our safety systems. A key role of this position is to notify clinicians when they have concerns about a patient’s condition.

**Key Responsibilities**
- The switchboard operator’s main responsibility is to answer and direct telephone calls in a polite and informative manner with empathy and understanding of patients from diverse, cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds
- Protect the confidentiality of patient clinical records without compromising appropriate clinical workforce access to patient clinical information
- Answer and direct all incoming calls and provider operator assistance as needed
- Perform clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, collating, photocopying, correspondence and stationery ordering
- Handle emergency calls immediately and relay comprehensive and accurate information, as required
- Record and compile statistics for the role supervisor as required
- Undertake other administrative tasks as directed from time to time
- Provide information and support the implementation of continuous quality improvement activities that develop the role and integration of services across Lifehouse

**To be successful in this role you will need**
- Knowledge of and/or experience in cancer services
- Previous experience working within a hospital switchboard service or within a busy environment
- Excellent personal presentation and attention to detail
- Proficient in keyboard skills and experience in the use of windows based programs
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under mínimal supervision
- Excellent customer service skills and experience working with the public
- Excellent organisational skills, including demonstrated time management skills, initiative and ability to make decisions
