**Position Information**:
The Department of Education serves the NSW community by providing world-class education from early childhood through to adulthood.

School counsellors work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with school and Departmental staff to enhance student learning and wellbeing. They are appointed to a base school and provide psychological counselling services to students in allocated public schools from Preschool to Year 12.

This position will be based at Canterbury Vale School and will work as part of the state-wide Refugee Student Counselling Support Team (RSCST). The RSCST builds the capacity of Departmental staff through consultation regarding counselling and complex case support, the design and delivery of professional learning, and project work to improve supports for students of refugee background in NSW public schools.

You will be required to and be willing to travel between worksites. Travel within NSW will be required.

**Selection Criteria**:
To be successful in this role you will have:

- Teaching qualifications and eligibility for an approval to teach in NSW Department of Education schools
- Registration or provisional registration as a psychologist, or eligibility for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people, including those from a refugee background
- Experience in cognitive, emotional, and behavioural assessment of children and young people including those from a refugee background
- Experience working in a cross-cultural context, and the ability to support others in providing evidence-based psychological and therapeutic interventions that improve learning and wellbeing for children and young people from refugee backgrounds
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including report writing
- Ability to work collaboratively with schools, parents, and agencies that support students and families from a refugee background
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
