The mission of Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is to rescue, repair, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned Australian native animals. Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is an emergency wildlife hospital operating 24 hours a day - 365 days per year, which admits more than 10,000 sick, injured and orphaned native animals annually.

The hospital seeks to provide gold standard care for native wildlife. It does so by continuously improving, researching and also developing new and innovative solutions for treating the large variety of species and problems that are seen daily. The hospital plays a significant role in educating visitors & influencing change in people’s behaviour assisting with conservation worldwide.

Keeping teams are encouraged to strive for continual improvement in facilities, animal care and self-development. They do this with enthusiasm and motivation toward their individual learning and training.

**Duties May Include**:

- Undertake cleaning and maintenance of the animal enclosures as required
- Assist with the planning, development and construction of enclosures
- Compliance with all relevant legislation including the Nature Conservation Act, the Animal Welfare Act, COP for Wildlife in QLD and Queensland Health Regulations
- Must communicate well with others and effectively share information as required
- Conduct animal health checks
- Prepare food and conduct feeding of the animals in your care in accordance with dietary requirements, feeding schedules and procedures
- Maintain records of observations and reports
- Conduct environment and enclosure safety checks
- Commitment to Australia Zoo Group policies and procedures
- Ensure company ethics and professional standards are adhered to at all times
- Maintain strong customer service standards
- Adhere to all Health and Safety Procedures

**Essential Criteria**:

- 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, including husbandry, keeping and training experience along with the willingness to learn new animal handling techniques and follow instruction
- High level of motivation and long-term commitment
- Have relevant vaccinations for working in the wildlife industry (Tetanus, Lyssavirus, Q fever)
- Self-motivation, initiative and the ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving skills and evidence-based decision making
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills & the ability to handle multiple tasks
- Flexibility with days/hours of work (including weekends, public holidays and school holidays)
- Excellent presentation

**Preferred Criteria**:

- Current 1st Aid qualifications
- Good knowledge of animal husbandry and wildlife species natural history
- Knowledge of koala browse identification
